Triple Language Analysis Essay (Gay Marriage) - 1904 Words

The issue of whether or not gay marriage should be accepted in Australia has been largely debated in politics and among the general public for a while now, and it seems as though it will remain a continuous issue for some time to come. The majority of Australians are currently split over whether the traditional view of marriage being solely between a man and a woman should be preserved, or whether this view of marriage is out-dated and should be redefined in order to allow gays the right to marry. The Australian Labor Party was also divided on this issue at a recently held federal conference. In the opinion piece â€Å"Welcome, gays, to†¦ what?† (published in the Herald Sun in December 2011), Wendy Tuohy contends in a supportive tone, that gay†¦show more content†¦This view is especially evident in his appeal to traditionalism, when he claims that he and his wife â€Å"believe that marriage as now defined is the basis for family life and has been for thousands o f years†, swaying readers to feel as though it should remain this way since marriage has come to a certain standing in our nation’s culture for so long. Throughout his piece, Cohen ridicules those who support gay marriage, sarcastically referring to them as the â€Å"progressives†, and questioning â€Å"whether they believed their own bullshit†. He also brings to light the possible â€Å"implications of their proposal† in order to put people off the idea of allowing same-sex marriage in Australia, claiming that if we continue to give people the rights to do whatever they want for the sake of equality, acts like polygamy and sex with underage children may well become the norm. Cohen expresses his disapproval of Australia’s â€Å"newfound liberalism† in regards to sexual relations, with the introduction of the pill and the adoption of Ms as the title for women being â€Å"the first steps in downgrading marriage†. He says this in an attempt to convince his audience that allowing gay marriage would only further demote traditional marriage, and the negative connotations in the word â€Å"downgrading† aid him in doing so. Introduction Lusch et al. (2007) describe as marketing emerged in the beginning of the 20th century, it embraced the goods-dominant (G-D) logic. The concept of the Four Ps of marketing mix – product, price, place and promotion became treated as the basic model at that time. (Grà ¶nroos, 1989) Today, this paradigm is beginning to lose its position. Service marketing is one leading new approach to marketing. Four main characteristics of services defined by Kotler et al. (2009) are intangible, perishable, variability and inseparability (see Appendix A). Thus, Booms and Bitner (1982) turn services marketing into 7Ps by adding people, physical evidence and process. Sheth and Parvatiyar (2000) define RM is the process of engaging in cooperative and collaborative activities with customers to create or enhance mutual economic value at reduced cost. One approach to relationship marketing is six markets model (see Appendix D). This model was developed by Christopher et al. (1991) as an instrument for the most comprehensive method to evaluate stakeholder relationships to develop potential successful strategies. (Payne and Holt, 2001) The customer markets are placed in the center of this model to emphasize the relationship with customers and other relevant stakeholders. (Payne et al., 2005) According to six markets model, customer markets are the heart of the six markets model. Galbreath (2002) believes value creation begins with customers as they have true economic value. Bhote (1996) describes the costs of attracting new customers are up to seven times more than maintaining them. However, companies should recognize the cost factors to achieve customer lifetime value and invest the effort in locating and acquiring potentially loyal customers. Loyal customers can be less price sensitive and make market entry difficult for competitors by retaining customer.
